Early Years Assessor

Hastings, South East£30,000 – £32,000

Early Years Assessor | Hastings, East Sussex | £30,000 – £32,000 | Permanent | Home-Based with Local Travel

This is a rare opportunity to join a growing Early Years apprenticeship provider at the very start of their expansion into the South East — and to help shape what that looks like.

You won't be inheriting a caseload. You'll be building one. Working closely with the business development team, you'll be out in the community — visiting nurseries, building relationships with employers, and establishing a real presence in the Hastings area. Think of it as the ground-floor of something with genuine momentum behind it.

The model has worked before. The same approach was used to launch in another region, where the assessor who started alone is now a Curriculum Manager leading a team of four. That's the kind of trajectory on offer here.

What you'll be doing

  • Delivering high-quality training and assessment to Early Years apprentices (Level 2 and Level 3)
  • Visiting apprentices in their nursery settings across the Hastings area (up to approximately one hour's travel)
  • Supporting the business development team in the early stages — attending nurseries, networking and helping to grow the local learner base
  • Monitoring apprentice progress, completing reviews and maintaining accurate portfolio and compliance documentation
  • Marking assessments and providing meaningful, developmental feedback
  • Promoting a strong safeguarding culture and reporting concerns in line with policy
  • Keeping your own CPD current and staying up to date with Early Years standards and frameworks

What we're looking for

  • A solid background in Early Years — you'll need genuine sector knowledge to be credible with employers and apprentices alike
  • Experience assessing or delivering apprenticeship programmes (Level 2 Early Years Practitioner and/or Level 3 Early Years Educator)
  • A relevant assessor qualification (e.g. TAQA, A1, CAVA or equivalent) — or working towards one
  • Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage your own diary and caseload independently
  • A full UK driving licence and access to your own vehicle
  • A commitment to safeguarding and the welfare of young learners

What's on offer

  • £30,000 – £32,000 starting salary, with a clear pathway to circa £35,000 as the team grows
  • Home-based role with local travel (no long commutes or overnight stays)
  • A genuine opportunity to grow into a senior or management role — this isn't a lateral move
  • No IQA responsibilities — you focus on delivery and assessment
  • A supportive, values-led organisation with a strong track record in Early Years apprenticeships
  • Start date around September 2025

If you're an experienced Early Years professional who's ready to step into assessment — or an assessor who wants to be part of building something from the ground up — we'd like to hear from you.
