Business Development Manager

Wigan, North West£25,000 – £35,000

Educated Appointments are delighted to be supporting a small, ambitious and growing training provider in the recruitment of a Business Development Manager to help expand their employer partnerships and apprenticeship provision.

This is a fantastic opportunity for a driven, commercially focused individual with experience in B2B sales, employer engagement, apprenticeships, funded training or workforce development to join a provider where your contribution will genuinely be seen, valued and make a difference.

The organisation delivers a range of Government-funded training programmes and apprenticeships across areas including logistics, transport, HGV driver training, business administration, customer service and wider employer-led training solutions. They work closely with both learners and businesses, helping people progress into meaningful careers while supporting employers to develop skilled, confident workforces.

This is not a role where you will be hidden away in a huge corporate structure. You will be joining a friendly, close-knit team with real growth plans, where you will have the opportunity to shape employer relationships, influence the development of the sales function and play a key role in the next stage of the organisation’s journey.

The Role

As Business Development Manager, you will be responsible for building strong, lasting relationships with employers across a range of sectors, identifying their recruitment and training needs, and promoting apprenticeship and funded training solutions that genuinely support workforce development.

You will be proactive in generating new business opportunities, engaging with decision-makers, attending employer meetings and networking events, and working closely with internal teams to ensure a smooth experience for both employers and learners.

The role will involve promoting apprenticeship programmes across areas such as Business Administration, Customer Service, Transport and Logistics, alongside wider funded training provision and relevant Skills Bootcamp opportunities.

Key Responsibilities

You will:

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with employers across a range of sectors
  • Generate new business opportunities for apprenticeship and funded training programmes
  • Promote employer-led training solutions that support workforce and skills development
  • Engage with businesses to understand their recruitment, training and commercial needs
  • Source employer opportunities for apprenticeships, learners and funded training pathways
  • Support the growth of transport, logistics and HGV-related training provision where relevant
  • Match suitable learners and candidates with employer opportunities
  • Attend employer visits, meetings, job fairs and networking events
  • Manage your own pipeline and work towards monthly engagement, sales and performance targets
  • Work closely with internal colleagues to ensure employers and learners are onboarded smoothly
  • Maintain accurate records, reports and compliance-related information

About You

We are looking for someone who is confident, proactive and commercially minded, with a strong ability to build relationships and turn conversations into meaningful opportunities.

You may already be working in apprenticeships, training, employability, recruitment, education sales, employer engagement or workforce development. What matters most is that you understand how to engage employers, identify their needs and present solutions that add real value.

You will need:

  • Previous experience in B2B sales, business development or employer engagement
  • Experience selling training programmes, funded training or apprenticeships would be highly desirable
  • A background in training, education, recruitment, apprenticeships or employability
  • Confidence engaging with employers, decision-makers, jobseekers and internal teams
  • A target-driven, commercially focused approach
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills
  • The ability to manage your own pipeline and work independently
  • Good organisational skills and attention to detail
  • An understanding of employer needs and workforce development
  • Knowledge of apprenticeships or Government-funded training would be advantageous
  • Knowledge of transport or logistics would be beneficial, but is not essential

Why Apply?

This is a brilliant opportunity to join a growing provider at an exciting stage of development.

You will be part of a supportive, friendly and ambitious team where your work has a direct impact on learners, employers and the wider business. You will have genuine scope to make the role your own, contribute ideas, develop employer partnerships and support the growth of a training provider with real purpose.

For the right person, this role offers not only a competitive salary and uncapped commission, but also the chance to grow with the business and help shape the future of its sales and employer engagement function.
